What is Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM)?

In today’s high tech world, keeping track of all the devices that connect to your network can be a daunting task.  Businesses that run on a BYOD model, and let their employees log on to the internal network with mobile devices that may or may not be fully protected, are just asking for trouble.  Any one of those devices can harbor malicious software just waiting to wreak havoc on your systems.  Remote Monitoring and Management allows us to monitor your critical infrastructure 24/7/365 and take a proactive approach to issues before they turn in to major ones.

How Can Remote Monitoring Help Me?

By deploying a Remote Monitoring and Management service on your network, desktops, servers and other mission-critical devices can be monitored 24/7/365 to ensure that they are always working properly and your business can continue to run as expected.  Instead of your typical break-fix model, we instead take a proactive approach so that we are alerted to issues ahead of time and can deploy fixes on a schedule that minimizes network downtime.

How Does Remote Monitoring Work?

Depending on the size of your network, and the types of devices you have, we will either install a separate monitoring computer which will gather data from all of your systems and then report back to our NOC, we will install an agent on each of your computers, or a combination of both.  This gives us an insight into your network, provides the ability to keep machines maintained and up-to-date, and proactively stay ahead of issues and resolve them remotely – without the need to come out to your office.

When one of our agents detects a problem on a machine it’s monitoring, an alert (or “ticket”) is created and sent to us so we can take whatever action is needed to resolve the problem. These tickets are often classified based on severity, problem type, etc., helping us prioritize and identify critical vs. non-critical issues. In best case scenarios, we are able to identify and solve issues before our clients even realize there’s a problem.

Functions of RMM Software Include:

  • Gather information about client software, hardware and networks
  • Supply us with activity reports and data
  • Create appropriate alerts and tickets when problems arise
  • Continuously track network and device health
  • Monitor multiple endpoints and clients simultaneously
  • Automate scheduled maintenance tasks, like Windows Updates and virus scans
